Caring For Your Jewellery

Sterling silver is a metal containing at least 92.5% silver hence the 925 stamps you see on sterling silver jewellery. This is the legal standard of purity set by the assay offices in Britain and used for most silver jewellery throughout the world. All of our jewellery is sterling silver except for our handmade ranges from Love Lily which is made with either sterling silver, silver plated or silver art clay materials. We specify the materials used for each item in the product description so you’ll always know what you’re buying from us.

Sterling silver can tarnish easily over time and through wear so to prevent this, take care of your sterling silver jewellery by polishing it frequently with a soft dry cloth and don’t use silver dip as this can take the polish and colour out of gemstones. Ideally, use the specially impregnated silver polishing cloths available at the checkout here at Uneak Boutique or alternatively pick them up in any jewellers. These cloths will make sure that your jewellery continues to retain its original sparkle and shine.

Always store your jewellery in the gift box it arrives in or carefully wrap it in a tarnish free pouch or store in a larger jewellery box. We strongly recommend you protect your silver jewellery by storing it carefully as advised and keeping it in a cool, dry place as it doesn’t like heat or moisture. It’s also better if you can store it on its own, but don’t worry it won’t be lonely for long as you’ll be back to wear it soon! It just ensures that no other jewellery scratches or discolours it. You know how some jewellery can be!

To bring the sparkle back to gemstones use warm water, washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Just gently soak the gemstones and settings in the soapy water, then brush inside the back of the setting and around the gemstone and rinse off with warm water. Another important thing to remember is to avoid your jewellery having contact with chemicals such as perfume, hairspray and deodorant as these can cause discoloration. Always apply these products first then put your jewellery on last, a bit like the cherry on top of a cupcake! Save the best until last!

Our products are guaranteed against manufacturing faults, but not for misuse or wear and tear. To keep you’re jewellery looking lovely for longer, remember to remove it when showering (soap can form a film on jewellery which isn’t nice), take it off when swimming (chlorine can damage or discolour your jewellery) and take it off when doing manual or domestic work. Don’t do the housework or the gardening with it on as lovely as you’ll look, you’re bound to catch it and snap it, so pop it back in the box until you’re done.

If you follow these simple rules your jewellery should have a long and happy life!
